Medical Supervision
What does Medical Supervision mean?  When you see us, Dr. Lazarus will provide / review the
following:

1)  A comprehensive medical / health history

2)  A comprehensive weight control questionnaire to identify patterns leading to weight gain

3)  A focused physical exam including blood pressure, body fat analysis, heart and lung exam, and
other tests relevant to weight loss

4)  Blood analysis to check for:  electrolyte problems, kidney or liver problems, anemia, cholesterol
with a breakdown of good and bad cholesterol, diabetes screen, thyroid screen, and urinalysis

5)  An EKG (electrocardiogram)

6)  An assessment of any conditions contributing to, or resulting from being overweight.  These
include but are not limited to:  high blood pressure, glucose intolerance,
metabolic syndrome,
diabetes, hypothyroidism, high cholesterol, hypertriglyceridemia, overweight-induced hepatitis,
polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), hypoglycemia, proteinuria, and depression.

7)  If conditions are present that make it difficult to lose weight, these will be addressed.

8)  If conditions are present as a result of being overweight, these will be addressed, and treated
as indicated.  Many conditions can be identified, and then followed with weight loss.  For example,
high blood pressure, high cholesterol, glucose intolerance, and even diabetes can all improve
dramatically as a healthier weight is achieved.  A plan to monitor these conditions will be discussed
as well.

9)  A treatment plan for weight loss including setting realistic and healthy goal weight based on
body fat analysis.  In addition, the treatment plan may include medications to address any medical
problems identified, and appropriate use of selected appetite suppressant medications.

10)  A discussion of weight maintenance
