Rapid weight loss on GLP-1 medications can sometimes lead to muscle loss if not monitored correctly. This is often called “Ozempic Face” or sarcopenia, and it can lower your metabolic rate long-term.
The CNC Difference: Unlike online telehealth services that only mail you a prescription, we measure your Skeletal Muscle Mass at every visit. We ensure you are burning Fat Mass, not the Lean Muscle that powers your health.
Why BMI is Obsolete
Body Mass Index (BMI) is a 200-year-old math equation that only looks at height and weight. It cannot tell the difference between a bodybuilder and someone with obesity. At Clinical Nutrition Center, we use the SECA mBCA (medical Body Composition Analyzer) to see the full picture of your metabolic health.
Fat Mass vs. Muscle Mass
We track exactly how many pounds of fat you have lost versus how much lean tissue you have gained. This scientific data proves that your nutrition plan is working effectively.
Hydration Status
Dehydration is a common side effect of weight loss medications. The SECA scan measures your total body water to ensure you are staying safely hydrated and energetic.
Visceral Adipose Tissue
This is the dangerous “hidden fat” stored around your organs. Reducing this specific number is critical for lowering your risk of heart disease and diabetes.
How the Scan Works
The SECA analysis is non-invasive, radiation-free, and takes less than 20 seconds. You simply stand on the medical platform and hold the hand electrodes.
The Science: It uses Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA) to send a safe, imperceptible signal through the body. Because muscle holds water and fat does not, the machine can accurately map your body composition with clinical precision.
This data helps our Dietitians and Providers customize your protein intake to prevent plateaus.
Preparation for Your Scan:
- Wear light clothing.
- Remove shoes and socks (bare feet required).
- Ideally, empty your bladder beforehand.
- Safe for patients with joint replacements (but not pacemakers).
