Telehealth vs. In-Person Weight Loss: Which Is Right for You?
CNC: The Best of Both Worlds
When it comes to medical weight loss, you have more options than ever. Telehealth apps promise convenience. Med spas offer quick visits. But when it comes to actually getting results—and keeping them off—those options often fall short.
At Clinical Nutrition Center, we offer both telehealth and in-person weight loss care, because we know that the best approach depends on your life, your schedule, and your health goals. We’re not here to sell you a subscription. We’re here to build a plan that actually works for you.
Telehealth Weight Loss: The App Reality
Telehealth weight loss apps like Ro and Hims have become popular for one reason: convenience. You fill out a questionnaire, get a prescription, and wait for the medication to arrive.
Here’s what those apps don’t tell you:
• You’re likely working with a nurse practitioner or a doctor who sees thousands of patients — not a specialist in obesity medicine
• There’s little to no ongoing metabolic monitoring — no body composition analysis, no lab work integration, no one looking at your whole picture
• When something goes wrong — side effects, stalled weight loss, medication interactions — you’re sent a FAQ, not a phone call
• You’re a subscription. When you stop the medication, the weight often comes back
• There’s no option to go in-person when you need it — you’re locked into the app model
Telehealth apps can work for some people. But they’re designed to scale, not to personalize.
In-Person Weight Loss: The CNC Difference
At Clinical Nutrition Center, you get to choose how you connect with your care team — and you can change that any time.
Our visit options include:
- Video visits — Face-to-face with your provider from anywhere in Colorado
- Phone consultations — When a call is more convenient than a video session
- In-person visits — At our Greenwood Village office, for body composition analysis, lab work, and hands-on clinical assessment
- e-Visits — Secure asynchronous communication through your patient portal
The best part: You don’t have to choose one and stick with it. Many of our patients use a hybrid approach — video or phone for routine follow-ups, in-person when they want body composition tracking or more time with their provider.
Our approach is built around your life:
- Body composition analysis (SECA scale) — we measure body fat, not just weight
- Metabolic monitoring — lab work to understand your starting point and track progress
- Ongoing clinical oversight — your provider knows your history, not just your current prescription
- Registered dietitian support — built into your plan, not added as an afterthought
- Obesity medicine specialists — Dr. Lazarus is board-certified in Obesity Medicine and has been treating obesity since before it was mainstream
The Bottom Line
| Telehealth App | Clinical Nutrition Center | |
|---|---|---|
| Provider | NP or distant MD | Board-certified obesity specialist and highly experienced physician associates who know you |
| Monitoring | None | Metabolic labs + body composition tracking |
| Dietitian | Chat bot | Real RDN, built into your plan |
| Side effects | FAQ or chatbot | Call or message your care team directly |
| When you plateau | Auto-ship more product | Provider adjusts your plan |
| Medications | Often compounded | FDA-approved, name-brand when available |
Which Is Right for You?
Telehealth may be right if:
-
- You live in a rural area with limited access to specialists
-
- Your schedule makes in-person visits difficult
-
- You’re already healthy and just need medication management
In-person care may be better if:
-
- You have complex metabolic needs (diabetes, heart disease, hormonal issues)
-
- You’ve struggled with weight loss before and want to understand why
-
- You want a team — not just a prescription
-
- You’ve tried the apps and didn’t get results
The good news: At CNC, you don’t have to choose one and stick with it forever. Many of our patients start with telehealth visits and transition to in-person care as their needs evolve.
Ready to Talk to Someone Who Actually Knows Your Name?
Whether you choose telehealth or in-person visits, you’ll work directly with our care team — not a call center. Schedule your free, no-obligation consultation and find out which approach is right for you.
*Your free visit can be with one of our Providers or Registered Dietitians. We will answer all of your questions, explain our programs and fees, and figure out if this is a good fit. This can be done in-person, or by phone or video. There are no obligations for this visit. This free visit is only for potential new patients. We are only able to provide care within Colorado.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Clinical Nutrition Center offer telehealth visits?
Yes. We offer video visits for patients throughout Colorado, making it easy to access physician-supervised weight loss care from home or work.
Is telehealth as effective as in-person care for weight loss?
For many patients, yes — especially for medication management and follow-up visits. In-person care offers additional tools like body composition analysis and metabolic lab work that can enhance your results.
What medications can I get through CNC’s telehealth program?
We prescribe all FDA-approved obesity medications including Wegovy, Zepbound, Ozempic, Mounjaro, Saxenda, and oral options like orforglipron and oral semaglutide.
Will I see the same provider each visit?
Yes. Unlike telehealth apps that rotate you through available providers, you’ll work with the same physician or PA throughout your care.
Can I switch from telehealth to in-person visits?
Absolutely. Many of our patients start with telehealth and transition to in-person care as their treatment progresses.
Do you accept insurance?
We are a self-pay clinic. However, many patients find that the cost of our program is comparable to their insurance copays after accounting for the higher-quality care and ongoing support. GLP-1 medications may be partially covered by your insurance.
