Ozempic® (semaglutide) is one of the most effective GLP-1 medications available for weight loss. At Clinical Nutrition Center in Greenwood Village, our board-certified obesity medicine doctors prescribe Ozempic and generic semaglutide as part of a comprehensive, physician-supervised weight loss program.

Unlike telehealth apps that prescribe and disappear, we monitor your progress every 1-4 weeks, adjust your dose based on how you feel, and pair the medication with nutrition coaching so you build real habits that last.

Serving patients in Denver, Aurora, Parker, Castle Rock, and surrounding Colorado communities.

What Is Ozempic?

Ozempic is the brand name for semaglutide, a once-weekly injectable GLP-1 receptor agonist. It was originally approved for Type 2 diabetes but has become one of the most widely prescribed weight loss medications in the country.

It works by mimicking a hormone (GLP-1) that tells your brain you’re full, slows your stomach emptying, and reduces appetite — making it significantly easier to eat less without feeling deprived.

Average weight loss with Ozempic: 12–15% of body weight over 36–68 weeks in clinical trials. Real-world results vary, and outcomes are best when combined with dietary changes and movement.

Why See a Doctor Instead of Using an App?

You can get Ozempic through plenty of apps and telehealth services. Here’s why working with a physician-led practice matters:

  • Medical oversight: Our doctors monitor labs, adjust dosing, and watch for side effects at every visit. Most apps offer a once-and-done prescription with minimal follow-up.
  • Nutrition included: Medication works better — and side effects are fewer — when paired with real dietary guidance. Our registered dietitians are part of every plan.
  • Real continuity: You see the same provider, not a different NP or PA every visit. Your history is in your chart.
  • Lab work: We establish baselines and track metabolic markers. Most apps don’t.
  • No online pharmacy required: We often have samples and can dispense in-office. Many patients start immediately.

What to Expect at Your Ozempic Appointment

  1. Initial consultation (60 min): We review your health history, current medications, weight loss goals, and any prior experience with GLP-1 medications. Labs are ordered if not recently done.
  2. Start date: Most patients begin with a low dose (0.25 mg) for 4 weeks to minimize side effects while your body adjusts.
  3. Follow-up visits (every 1-4 weeks): We assess how you’re responding, review side effects, and advance your dose as tolerated. Most patients reach the therapeutic dose (2.4 mg) within 12–16 weeks.
  4. Ongoing support: Your doctor, PA and RDN are available between visits. If you hit a plateau, we adjust the plan — not just shrug and say “that’s normal.”

Frequently Asked Questions — Ozempic Denver

How much does Ozempic cost in Denver?
If you have insurance coverage, as low as $25 / month. We provide prior-authorization support. Note that Ozempic is not covered for weight loss, but is often covered if you have type 2 diabetes.

Without coverage, $199 to start, but then as high as $499 / month. Because Ozempic is exactly the same drug as Wegovy, we usually use Ozempic for people with type 2 diabetes, and Wegovy for weight loss. The benefit of Ozempic is that it comes in a multi-dose pen, allowing patients to “micro-dose.” This is trickier to do, but possible with the Wegovy Pen. The Wegovy pens are significantly less expensive than Ozempic, even at the highest doses.

Because of this complexity, we review your options with you in detail to pick the approach that is best for you.

Do I need to have diabetes to get Ozempic?
No. While Ozempic is FDA-approved for Type 2 diabetes, it is commonly prescribed off-label for weight loss. Our doctors assess each patient individually.

What’s the difference between Ozempic and Wegovy?
Both contain semaglutide. The difference is dosing, indication and the type of device. Ozempic is in a multi-dose, adjustable pen, whereas Wegovy is in a fixed-dose, non-adjustable pen. Wegovy is FDA-approved specifically for weight loss with a higher max dose (7.2 mg). Ozempic tops out at 2.0 mg. Our doctors determine which is appropriate based on your health profile.

What’s the difference between Ozempic and Zepbound?
Both are GLP-1 medications. Zepbound (tirzepatide) also activates the GIP hormone pathway, resulting in greater average weight loss in trials (except the HD Wegovy 7.2 mg). Our doctors will recommend the best option based on your health profile. Learn more about Zepbound in Denver.

Does insurance cover Ozempic for weight loss?
Some plans do, many don’t. We are out-of-network for most plans but provide documentation to maximize reimbursement. We also offer payment plans for self-pay patients.

What are the common side effects?
Nausea, bloating, constipation, and reduced appetite are the most common — usually mild and temporary. We start at low doses to minimize these. If you experience severe nausea, vomiting, or abdominal pain, contact us immediately.

How long do I need to be on Ozempic?
That depends on your goals. Most patients stay on the medication long-term to maintain weight loss. Stopping abruptly can cause weight regain. We work with you to make that decision together.
