I lost 10 pounds without trying – you can too! – Ethan Lazarus, MD

Dr. Ethan Lazarus Head

One of the most common question patients ask me is “Have you ever had a weight problem?” I usually answer that my weight negatively affects my health – I have prediabetes and high cholesterol, so chronic weight management is important to keep me healthy. In spite of this, like everybody, my weight fluctuates. In fact by June of this past year, I had gained 10 pounds. The stresses of work, kids and travel had added up!

What Got You Here Won’t Get You There

I had the pleasure of reading Marshall Goldsmith’s book titled “What got you here won’t get you there” on a recent airplane flight, and was surprised how many of the suggestions in this book are timely and relevant for the individual wanting to lose weight. With the holidays upon us, countless people will make it their New Year Resolution: to lose 20 pounds, 30 pounds, 50 pounds, 100 pounds… They will go on a severe diet and start going to the gym 5 days per week. Believe it or not, the slowest time of year at CNC is from Thanksgiving to Christmas. Conversely, the busiest time of year starts on January 1st. I'm sure you won't be surprised to hear that January comes along and everybody's New Year Resolution is to lose all the weight gained during the holidays.

Group Class with Kim Jones

Group Class

Do you struggle to stay motivated? Do you feel like you have to work harder than others to accomplish your goals? You are not alone! “Success for a Lifetime” is a group designed to encourage and support others to succeed in their weight loss goals. This is not a “class” where you learn information; it is a group for sharing your successes and struggles. This group is designed to identify blocks that are keeping us stuck and to motivate one another towards accomplishing who we want to be.

Going on a weight loss program always seems like such a chore – all those delicious foods that you have to pass by. All that time at the gym that you don’t like or didn’t have time for in the first place. As spring settles in, why not take a different approach?

What Really Matters?

During April, I attended the Obesity Medicine Association’s (OMA) Fall conference in San Francisco. This conference educates doctors on the treatment of obesity. I helped teach their review course (courses on nutrition and diet) and in their main summit, courses on the use of medications. I presented four hours of lectures in two days!
