Obesity Care WeekPosted: Mar 03 in Uncategorized by Dr. Lazarus
This week (March 2nd 2020) we at Clinical Nutrition Center are proud supporters of Obesity Care Week.
Right now, two out of three Americans are at an unhealthy weight. Yesterday, the New York Times reported that by 2030, nearly one in two adults will have obesity, and nearly one in four will have severe obesity. By 2030, nearly one in two adults will have obesity, and nearly one in four will have severe obesity.
Here in Denver, Colorado, we are not immune to this. While we are still the thinnest state, one out of five Colorado residents is living with obesity.
Currently, there is still inadequate coverage by health insurance of weight loss programs, medications and services. Here in Denver, Colorado, we see particularly poor coverage in particular for FDA-Approved weight loss medications. These weight loss medications have been approved for chronic weight management and have been shown to improve weight loss and to double to triple the odds of keeping weight off long-term.
Obesity Care Week was launched “With a vision to create a society that understands, respects and accepts the complexities of obesity and values science and clinically-based care.”
Support obesity care week by treating those with obesity with dignity and respect, by supporting clinical care and management of obesity, and by taking care of yourself, committing to long-term healthy habits to help you on your weight loss journey.
