Coronavirus Treatment Options

Posted: Mar 22 in coronavirus, Health And Wellness, news by

Coronavirus is spreading rapidly throughout the US, and in particular here in Colorado with significant pockets in Denver, Douglas County, Jefferson County, and several mountain communities. Please stay home if you are sick, over the age of 60, have a compromised immune system, or a chronic disease.

Clinical Nutrition Center is NOT equipped to diagnose or treat coronavirus infections. We do not have proper protective gear and are not able to obtain it, nor do we have any testing kits. Further, we do not do routine blood typing at CNC. If you have questions about your blood type or treatment options, please discuss with your primary care provider. This article is intended to update CNC patients on the current state of treatment options.

Medications

While there are a few very small trials of hydroxychloroquine, azithromycin and others, the use of these medications is not the current standard of care, and right now the Department of Regulatory Agencies in Colorado states that they should not be used for the treatment of COVID-19.

Vaccination

Vaccination trials are underway, but no vaccine has been developed or found to be effective at this time.

Johnson & Johnson has committed over a billion dollars and states they may have a vaccine available by early 2021.

Treating Coronavirus Symptoms

  • Tylenol appears superior to ibuprofen for aches and fever
  • Dextromethorphan can suppress cough
  • Guaifenisin can help with congestion
  • Albuterol can help with wheezing
  • Secondary infections must be treated with appropriate antibiotics – consult with your primary care provider.
  • Vitamin D, Probiotics and Zinc may provide some benefit
