Five Signs It is Time to Get Serious about Losing Weight

Posted: Dec 31 in Weight loss by

For most people, excess weight piles on over a period of years or even decades – but it can often be tricky to find the motivation to work those pounds off again. However, there are a few tell-tale signs which will let you know that is time to put some serious effort into trying to lose weight, such as:

Tight clothing

Ill-fitting clothing, waistbands digging into your stomach, and struggling to fit into your favorite pair of jeans are all signs that you have gained some weight and need to start looking into strategies to lose it. Since it is highly unlikely that your clothes have shrunk or that you are still growing at the ripe old age of 45, weight gain is almost certainly the only culprit. Reduce your calorific intake and exercise more in order to get down to a healthier weight.

Constant fatigue

Carrying extra pounds causes your body and heart to work extra hard to perform daily tasks. As a result, you may feel more tired than usual and find your energy levels plummeting. If you find yourself feeling constantly fatigued, it is probably time to hit the gym.

Your annual check-up has revealed some scary stuff

Your doctor may tell you that you are at risk for diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart problems because you are carrying too many pounds. If your annual check-up produces such scary results, it is definitely time to go on a diet and start an exercise program. The good thing about making these changes is that you may be able to bring your weight down to normal and avoid developing these health conditions.

You get winded climbing stairs

If you experience breathlessness or bouts of wheeziness any time you go up a set of stairs, it could be a sign that it is time to lose weight. This is because being overweight causes your heart and lungs to work harder when you perform strenuous activities. Losing the extra weight will make climbing stairs and performing other activities easier – in addition to taking the strain off your heart and lungs.

Your knees and joints are always sore

Carrying too much weight can wreak havoc on your knees and joints – causing constant soreness and even making it difficult to walk. If you find that your knees are getting sorer and that your joints ache when you bend or squat, it is probably time to consider getting rid of the unwanted pounds. It can be easy to pack on the pounds without even noticing. However, when the signs outlined in this article start to appear, you will know that it is time to get serious about losing weight.
