If you have made New Year's resolutions to lose weight in the past only to find that you have to make the same resolution the following year, then this article really is for you. Instead of a resolution to lose weight this year, don't you think it's time for something different? Because the resolution to lose weight often results in a short term weight loss followed by even more weight gain. All to often I see patients with a well-intended weight loss resolution end the year higher than when they started. Let's get off this merry-go-round and try something different for a change.
Over the past couple months, I published several articles on important updates regarding medical weight loss. In case you missed them, I wanted to give you quick links to each article:
The New Year is here now, and I wanted to take a moment and share with you exciting updates for Denver residents regarding medical weight loss programs and medications for 2013. With the season changing from a warm fall to a cooler winter, our bodies may desire more comfort foods. This time of year we crave things like warm cakes, gravy's, sauces, baked goods, buttery dishes and heavier caloric foods. In the Spring and Summer, lighter foods like salads and fruit may be more appealing. How HEALTHY can we be for the next two months? How many of these deaths could be prevented if our grocery stores had a plethora of healthy foods and a paucity of purposeful crap?
Following an eating plan for long periods of time can be boring. So many of us use "just a little extra" food for entertainment, as a pick-me-up, to fill time, or as a reward for good behavior in other areas of our lives. Where do snack foods fit in? A healthy snack, ( in the perfect world), would fit into our daily food plan rather than blowing our calorie limits out of the water. It would be satisfying, but not lead us into more unplanned calories. What works for you?
Gut Hormones? What does that mean? Why do we care? Well, understanding how our bodies work provides the backbone to the science of obesity medicine. Advances in our knowledge of these hormones will provide new treatment strategies.
Many thanks to Suzanne Boos, RD, for organizing a Halloween Candy drive in the office. Patients and staff were able to bring in their candy (and get it out of the house!) and we collected over 10 pounds of candy! Suzanne is coordinating with her church to bring all of the candy to Mexico.
