Reducing Sedentary Time for Weight Maintenance

“This article, co-authored by a patient living with obesity and his obesity medicine specialist, reviews how the patient has successfully lost 200 lb and maintained that loss for over a decade. This was achieved primarily with a behavioral intervention including support visits, a structured food plan, and changes in his physical activity. He did not undergo bariatric surgery. For the majority of this time, he was not treated with anti-obesity medication. This article will review how the patient lost the weight and kept it off, particularly in relationship to the importance of decreasing sedentary time.”

The Essential Fatty Acid Balance

I lost 10 pounds without trying – you can too! – Ethan Lazarus, MD

One of the most common question patients ask me is “Have you ever had a weight problem?” I usually answer that my weight negatively affects my health – I have prediabetes and high cholesterol, so chronic weight management is important to keep me healthy. In spite of this, like everybody, my weight fluctuates. In fact by June of this past year, I had gained 10 pounds. The stresses of work, kids and travel had added up!

What Got You Here Won’t Get You There

I had the pleasure of reading Marshall Goldsmith’s book titled “What got you here won’t get you there” on a recent airplane flight, and was surprised how many of the suggestions in this book are timely and relevant for the individual wanting to lose weight. With the holidays upon us, countless people will make it their New Year Resolution: to lose 20 pounds, 30 pounds, 50 pounds, 100 pounds… They will go on a severe diet and start going to the gym 5 days per week. In a month or two, they will lose 10 or 20 pounds – or more – only to immediately start regaining.
