Thanksgiving has passed and the next set of holidays is right around the corner. What better time to learn from our successes and/or mistakes.
How did your Thanksgiving go? Did you have a plan? Did you stick with it? Did you feel successful, or did it feel like a big failure? I think it is helpful to reflect on how we did to empower us to do even better! I like to be concrete, so have developed the following scoring system
One of my favorite things about summer is weekend trips to the farmer’s market!
I spend each weekend picking up produce and some of my favorite household staples at my local farmer’s market. There are so many benefits of supporting local farmers, and buying fresh and local produce. This is hands down the best place to get inspiration, farmers work so hard to bring beautiful produce each weekend, and it inspires me to make healthy, nutrient dense meals to bring to the table.
Here are some reasons why I love shopping at farmer’s markets and you should too!

“This article, co-authored by a patient living with obesity and his obesity medicine specialist, reviews how the patient has successfully lost 200 lb and maintained that loss for over a decade. This was achieved primarily with a behavioral intervention including support visits, a structured food plan, and changes in his physical activity. He did not undergo bariatric surgery. For the majority of this time, he was not treated with anti-obesity medication. This article will review how the patient lost the weight and kept it off, particularly in relationship to the importance of decreasing sedentary time.”
Believe it or not, the slowest time of year at CNC is from Thanksgiving to Christmas. Conversely, the busiest time of year starts on January 1st. I'm sure you won't be surprised to hear that January comes along and everybody's New Year Resolution is to lose all the weight gained during the holidays.
Compared to losing weight, keeping it off is a whole different ballgame. Losing weight is exciting – seeing 10 pounds, 20 pounds, or even 50 pounds come off quickly helps us stay engaged and motivated. Unfortunately, keeping the weight off doesn’t give us that reward of seeing the scale number go down, seeing our clothing size shrink, seeing our bodies return to how they were when we were younger.
Instead of trying to eat less and exercise more this year, how about a different approach? How about eating MORE (of the right things), sitting less, journaling, rewarding yourself appropriately and fixing your sleep routine?
You’ve worked so hard and long to reach your goal weight. Now that you’re here, you might think it’s time to let your guard down when it comes to your daily fitness routine, but that’s not a wise plan.
With the beginning of Spring, now is the time to write down what motivates you and set healthy goals. This is key to either lose weight or maintain weight loss. Don't miss this opportunity to start something for your health with this fresh new season.
Have you recovered from the long weeks of excessive food pushing and eating? It's part of our culture. We start with peanuts and candy corn in October, slide into apple and pecan pies in November, top off Christmas with red and green M&M’s, and wash it all down with champagne at New Year’s celebrations! How many of us swore this behavior off in the first days of 2014? Congratulations and best wishes for a healthier, more nutritious year! But wait! We have yet another winter barrier to hurdle!
